FACES OF CHINA 1980 - EAST AND WEST
Photography.
The Norwegian photographer Leif Gabrielsen travelled in China for 17 days in May 1980 as photojournalist. He was part of a 4-man delegation from the Norwegian newspaper Klassekampen, invited to China by People's Daily. On the east coast they visited Beijing. Shanghai and Hangzhou and in western China they arrived at Urumqi, Shihezi, Turpan, Gaochang and a valley in the Tien Shan mountains.
Leif Gabrielsen used the opportunity to do a lot of photographic work, leaving the delegation to walk along by himself. He shot more than 3000 exposures. In 2018-19 he looked anew at the material from 1980 and composed this exhibition mainly of images not used in the newspaper at the time.

All the time he also has been working with his own art projects. He is represented in museums and collections. ex. The National Museum of Art.
